New Delhi: More than a year after Operation Sindoor was launched in retaliation for the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, the government has officially revealed the names of the six military personnel who lost their lives during the operation. The names of the fallen soldiers—five from the Indian Army and one from the Indian Air Force—have now been inscribed on the Tyag Chakra at the National War Memorial in New Delhi as a tribute to their sacrifice.
This is the first time since the Indian armed forces' military operation in May 2025 that the government has publicly released the names of the six personnel.
The names of the six personnel, inscribed on Wall No. 3D of the Tyag Chakra at the National War Memorial, are: Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, Rifleman Sunil Kumar (VrC), Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar, Agniveer Mood Muralinaik, Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh of the Indian Army, and Sergeant Surendra Kumar of the Indian Air Force.
The unit names of these bravehearts have also been inscribed. Sources said the names were added to the wall recently.
The names have also been included in the Roll of Honour on the National War Memorial's website.
The iconic memorial stands as a solemn tribute to Indian soldiers who laid down their lives defending the nation in wars and military operations since Independence.
The centrepiece of the memorial, located in the India Gate complex, is an obelisk alongside the eternal flame, Amar Jawan Jyoti, surrounded by concentric circles with curved walls on which the names of the fallen heroes are inscribed.
On the corner of Wall No. 3D, a brick on the top row bears the inscription 'OP SINDOOR', the one below it reads '2025', followed by the names of the six personnel engraved vertically on separate bricks.
India launched Operation Sindoor in the early hours of May 7, 2025, targeting and destroying multiple terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Pakistan subsequently launched offensives against India, and all Indian counter-offensives were carried out under Operation Sindoor.
The military conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbours ended after both sides reached an understanding on the evening of May 10, 2025.
